Leeds General Infirmary (Profile)

The congenital heart disease unit at Leeds provides specialist, tertiary services for the fetus, child and adult with congenital heart disease, covering a population of some 5.25 million in Yorkshire, Humberside and Northern Trent. The geographical area extends East to the coast, including Hull, Grimsby and Scarborough; West to the edge of the pennines (Halifax and Huddersfield); South to Worksop and Chesterfield and North to Northallerton and Airedale.

The unit is an important part of The Leeds Childrens Hospital which opened in Spring 2012. It is served by a brand new 20 bedded Paediatric Intensive care Unit. It also benefits from being under the same roof as a wide variety of supporting services including acute adult cardiology and cardiac surgery, tertiary obstetric care and feto-maternal medicine. The unit caters for all aspects of congenital heart disease management other than heart transplantation.
