PDA

Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA.) occurs commonly in preterm infants, and can close spontaneously (by day three in 60% of normal term neonates).
The remainder are closed at surgery or with a catheter device (see Amplatzer and Coil).
The procedure is always recommended even in the absence of cardiac failure, but can often be deferred until early childhood.
